Reconnect with nature in the Gaverina Terme oasis, amidst biodiversity, culture and agriculture. And if trekking gives you an appetite, the Val Cavallina Biopark also offers opportunities for enjoying great food and wine.
A network of two kilometres of paths winds through the thirteen hectares of the Gaverina Terme oasis. Following these paths immersed in verdant countryside, you will see farmsteads, old roccoli (bird-trapping installations), spaces dedicated to education and open-air activities, and you will have many opportunities to learn more about local history and culture.
The heart of this green area is the ancient hamlet of Trate, where in addition to tasting local products, you can discover the valley’s history and culture, from theory to practice. There are educational and training spaces at the house Cà del Valù, and stables where you can meet horses, goats, donkeys, cows and sheep and discover their role in the life of the local community, from domestic economy to breeding and food production.
From the Borgo Antico (the old village), you can walk along the Sentieri della Memoria (Trails of Memory), a network that crosses the entire green area, which has survived the abandonment of rural life and now provides an opportunity to discover valleys, barns, haylofts and villages, where you can also stay for a night immersed in nature.
From the animal kingdom to the world of plants, the route towards the rediscovery of the area also includes greenhouses and vegetable gardens where ancient crops have been re-established and, along with them, you can savour the rural memory of Val Cavallina, an experience that continues at the dining tables and workshops inside the Biopark.
In the woods and meadows of Valle delle Sorgenti (Valley of the Springs), you can also try “the forest sport”: armed with a map and compass, you can practice orienteering, trying to complete routes in a series of stages in the shortest possible time, finding your way amongst the streams and glades of this green habitat, where getting lost is a pleasure and finding your way back is pure enjoyment.
The Associazione Bioparco della Val Cavallina (Val Cavallina Biopark Association) is involved in the promotion of this natural area.
