The art of Lorenzo Lotto, noble architecture, thermal waters. Welcome to Trescore Balneario, the largest town in the valley.
Trescore Balneario is the largest municipality in Val Cavallina and the richest from a cultural and artistic point of view. The town hosts some of the most prestigious architecture and works of art in the area and is worth a visit.
The jewel of the village of Trescore is the Suardi Oratory, located inside the Villa Suardi Park and commissioned by the cousins Giovanni Battista and Maffeo Suardi in the early 16th century. In 1524, it was frescoed by Lorenzo Lotto (except the apse, linked by scholars to an anonymous painter from the circle of the Bergamasque artist Jacopino de’ Scipioni). The painter came to Trescore Balneario at the request by Giovan Battista Suardi, who commissioned the work.
In the central Piazza Cavour, the town’s beating heart, next to the 13th-century mediaeval tower, you can admire the monument to Igea, the goddess of health. Other architectural points of interest include the Romanesque Church of San Cassiano and the Chiesa del Mirabile.
In the Canton district stands the splendid Villa Terzi, a complete example of 18th-century architecture and great compositional unity, now an attractive wedding venue.
To the south, we find instead Villa Celati Mosconi, in Neoclassical style (dating back to 1836), and the Terme complex of Roman origin, immersed in the greenery of a beautiful park.
The properties of the sulphurous water of Trescore have been known since Roman times. Since then, thermal activity has progressed up to the present day together with medical, scientific and technological research: today, the Terme di Trescore is a very modern thermal centre frequented all year round.
