PURCHASE THE GUIDE ONLINE

If you took all the 126 proposals contained in this volume, it would take you a total of almost 3,000 kilometres, travelled on the saddle of your bicycle. It would be a long journey taking you, one season after another, from the 120 metres above sea level of Milan’s “Navigli” canals, up to the peaks and passes of the Orobic mountains, where you could cycle up to the guide’s “Cima Coppi” (Coppi peak): the 2,612 metres above sea level of the Passo di Caronella pass. With its meticulous descriptions, accompanied by detailed maps and the possibility of downloading GPS tracks, there is no chance of getting lost, and you can explore the images and writings with which the author has lovingly narrated each itinerary. Clear and effective diagrams, which provide you with all the relevant information on the double opening page of each itinerary, and the subdivision of the proposals into 13 homogeneous geographical areas, will help you get to know the area and choose the route best suited to your style, habits, and levels of athletic and technical training. In this way, you will thus be able to gradually increase the effort required by the proposed excursions, with the possibility of cycling throughout the year.

For a trip with the family and children, you have a choice of 11 cycle paths with a total length of 346 km. Part of this network of cycle paths can also be used for transfers along the valley floor, returning to the starting points of many of the 115 circular mountain bike routes. You will be spoilt for choice: 2,587 kilometres of paths, dirt tracks and roads are there for you. At the end of your excursions, when you have completed all the proposed itineraries, you will have completed more than 110,000 metres of total ascent.

The new feature of this guide is a chapter dedicated to the cycle network connecting Milan to the valleys and lakes of Lecco and Bergamo, essential arteries for gentle and sustainable mobility. With this choice, we wanted to offer a unified picture of an existing and functional cycle-pedestrian network, even if it lacks consistent and effective signposting for cyclists. We are convinced that cycle paths, in combination with the proposed mountain bike trails, are a vital resource for the area. With this organic proposal we wish to make our own small contribution to the development of a slow and environmentally friendly form of tourism, an attentive and curious tourism in search of nature and beauty.

The author: Maurizio Panseri was born in 1964 and has lived for over 20 years in Olera, a small historic village set in the woods of Alzano Lombardo, a few kilometres from Bergamo. Ever since his teenage years, he has been deeply interested in the mountains, exploring the entire Alpine arc, but the Orobic Alps and the Bergamo Pre-Alps are “his” mountains, those close to his home, to which he remains profoundly attached and which still amaze him today. His passion for mountain biking, with which he stubbornly tries to cycle every trail, goes hand in hand with his love of mountaineering, ski mountaineering and climbing. He has always documented and narrated his moments of life in the mountains, on rock-climbing walls, on skis and on wheels. He has worked with numerous specialist magazines. His “Piccole Storie” (Brief Stories) and his entire production can be found and read at www.vertical-orme.tv.
