The day will begin with a presentation and visit with the curators to the collection of works donated by Monte to his native municipality and housed in the historic setting of the Villa Comunale Grumelli Pedrocca in Piazza della Libertà 27, as well as the works he created in the nearby Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Campi.
5.30 p.m.: Luzzana, former Church of San Bernardino, Piazza Castello
Afterward, the presentation will take place in the former deconsecrated church of San Bernardino, one of the two exhibition venues located in Piazza Castello, and with a guided tour by the curators of the exhibition in the nearby Contemporary Museum of Art at Luzzana – Meli Donation, at Castello Giovannelli, at n° 73 Via Castello.
The exhibition entitled “The return of the artist” is not just an exhibition, but another pilot project of the Friends of the Luzzana Museum, in synergy with the municipality. This is the first retrospective dedicated to the rediscovery of Luigi Monti known as Monte, which evokes historical and artistic examples of times gone by and weaves an unusual collaboration between organisations and associations in a wide area, from the small village in Val Cavallina to the town and the artist’s birthplace at the entrance to the plain.
The initiative is curated by art historian Rolando Bellini, artist connoisseur Luigi Cortesi, museum director Roberta Mazza, and sculptor Gianpaolo Corna. It is sponsored by Comunità Montana dei Laghi Bergamaschi e Val Cavallina.
The exhibition will run from 1st June to 25th August 2024, at the Contemporary Museo of Art at Luzzana – Meli Donation and the ancient deconsecrated church of San Bernardino, in Luzzana.
