A small territory but rich in history, it played a leading role in the economy of Val Cavallina in the Middle Ages.
The territory of Borgo di Terzo is among the least extensive of the valley’s municipalities (only 1.86 square kilometres for just over 1100 inhabitants). However, in late medieval times, thanks to an economy based on ironworking and grain milling, Terzo and its village were rich in business and trade, to the point of being the political and economic center of the middle and lower valley.
The rule of the Terzi family was instrumental in the development of Terzo and its village. The foundation of the Castle of Terzo (now disappeared) is due to this family.
However, significant buildings remain to testify to the village’s history in the middle of Val Cavallina. These include the convent and Church of San Pietro in Aria, the convent and Church of San Michele, Palazzo Terzi, the village (with its evidence of millstones, forges, and hammers), but also the Torrazzo (tower), the courtyards of the notary houses and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta with the Oratory of the Disciplini (recently restored).
