Monasterolo del Castello

Set on the banks of Lake Endine, Monasterolo del Castello is one of the most popular and evocative locations in the area, and it offers a pleasant environment full of opportunities offered by the lake itself, a real jewel surrounded by mountains.

An ideal place for a holiday of relaxation and recreation, Monasterolo offers those who live there and those who spend a period of rest and tranquillity, a pleasant environment full of activities to be carried out on the lake (fishing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, hiking), forbidden to motorised boats and immersed in an environment that is not yet contaminated.

The Monasterolo area includes several springs that add extra complexity to the already extensive hydrothermal facilities of Val Cavallina. The most relevant springs are located in the hamlet named Pom (in the Legner area): the Smeralda spring has sulphate-bicarbonate-calcium-magnesium waters; the Gemma and Ferrobatteri springs offer medium-mineral bicarbonate-alkaline-earth waters; the Adamantina spring provides water with a lower mineral content but with more hydrogen sulphide.

In Monasterolo del Castello there are three important historical and artistic sites. There is Terzi Castle, of medieval origin, whose garden is considered one of the most beautiful in northern Italy; the Church of the Santissimo Salvatore, rich in Baroque art masterpieces; the Stations of the Cross, in the churchyard, with the valuable mosaics designed by Trento Longaretti.

The village name bears the trace of an ancient monastery, the remains of which were visible until the 17th century in the area of the present church. The access to the unique and evocative “closed” churchyard is through a portal on which a mosaic depicting the entry of Christ into Jerusalem stands out. As you go down towards the church, there are 14 shrines with the Stations of the Cross. To conclude the visit, one cannot fail to pass through a second portal from which one leaves the churchyard and heads towards the lake.
