The only way to get to this little church is on foot.
Just follow the red and white markings of path 607 marked by the Club Alpino Italiano (Italian Alpine Club) or one of the many paths that climb the slopes of this mountain. Discovering this fascinating sacred place built around the year 1000 is also an opportunity to immerse oneself in Val Cavallina, which combines unexpected views of the lake with jewels of sacred art.
Inside, this small jewel of Romanesque art originally housed a work by Giovan Battista Moroni, the great 16th-century Bergamasque portrait painter acclaimed by museums worldwide. Today, Moroni’s original altarpiece has been transferred to the Parish Church of Cenate Sopra and replaced with a 19th-century copy.
The architecture of the small church is very simple: next to a small bell tower, a single rectangular room makes up the interior of the building, which has a portico on the outside, built on the side façade and not on the main one, giving space not only for spiritual contemplation but also for the view that opens up over the entire valley.
If the quiet charm of this place surrounded by greenery and its almost unreal silence have struck you, spending a night in the heights is an experience for you: next to the little church that straddles Val Seriana and Val Cavallina, there is a small hostel where you can stay overnight and from where you can set off on an exploration of Mount Misma and its surroundings.
