ENTRATICO – PRATI ALTI – PIZZO CASGNOLA
A short, intense circular route that traces a wide loop around the Valle dell’Acqua. After a long uphill traverse along the slopes of Mount Pranzà, from Vigano S. Martino to Prati Alti, we reach the top of Corna Clima. From here, the real adventure begins with one of the most technical and rewarding descents toward Trescore Balneario: a Mirabile DH.
The first part of the descent serves as a fun warm-up on a narrow trail filled with roots. The second part, the Mirabile descent, starts at Pizzo Casgnola and offers a unique and intense experience along a trail that must be ridden carefully yet is highly enjoyable.
ITINERARY DESCRIPTION
From the car park in via E. Mattei of Entratico (1), take the Val Cavallina cycle path that runs alongside the Cherio and follow it faithfully (blue signposts), passing through the villages of Luzzana and Borgo di Terzo. Having reached Vigano San Martino (2), the cycle path exits onto the SP79 road that climbs to Grone. Turn immediately left and join the SS42 road in the direction of Bergamo, travelling along it for a few metres and then turning right into via Bergamo, towards the centre of Vigano, where the climb begins. Take via Crocefisso to the left and then via Vittorio Veneto; at the end, turn right into via Moia, following the signs for Pozza di Misma (CAI signpost 622). With a succession of steep sections and breathing areas, climb along the cemented road. Near a no-entry sign, turn left: the road soon becomes a dirt track and you follow it, without any detours, until you reach the farmhouse at Il Colle (3).
Immediately after the farmhouse, follow the path up the grassy ridge and leave three successive huts behind you, continuing along the Prato delle Monache: a wide plateau with a farmstead surrounded by fir trees, a lovely place to stop and enjoy the excellent view over the Valle dell’Acqua. Following the same track, at the crossroads after the hut, take the path to the left (CAI trail sign 622B) which, with a nice traverse and some ups and downs, crosses two small valleys and joins the cemented road that climbs from Luzzana. Follow it uphill and, at the first hut, leave it to take the dirt track on the left, which is flat and leads to the Prati Alti (4) pool, a pleasant spot where you can take a break and admire the view of Mount Pranzà and, beyond, the San Fermo hills. From there, continue along the cemented road signposted for Mount Misma (CAI trail sign 513), first going uphill and, after an intense uphill stretch, continuing on the flat until you reach the signpost with directions to the left for Prati Alti (CAI trail sign 609). Follow this beautiful uphill path until you reach the summit of Corna Clima (5), where a signpost with indications for Trescore (CAI trail sign 610) indicates the direction to the right to begin the descent. Follow the path and, at the first crossroads, turn left following the signposts for Prati Alti (CAI signpost 609), travelling along the narrow and technical path until you reach the dirt track that crosses Prati Alti. Follow it to the right, following the signs for Luzzana (CAI trail marker 610), and, after passing the second hut, before ascending to the nearby Pizzo Casgnola hump (6), take the sharp right turn with signs for Madonna del Mirabile (CAI trail marker 610). This section on the single track of the Mirabile reserves strong emotions with a stony track full of hairpin bends and slides. At the end, you reach the Sanctuary of Madonna del Mirabile (7), where you continue on asphalt towards Prato Bergamo. When you reach the plateau, take the third dirt road on the left, following the signs to the riding school and climbing shortly afterward. In the vicinity of Madonna del Roccolo, descend to the left on the wide flowing path and walk along a fence. Never leave the main track until you reach via Laghetto in Trescore Balneario, in the Fornaci locality (8), and shortly afterward the large roundabout on the SS42, which you will take in the direction of Lovere. Shortly after the roundabout, turn right into via Roveto and cross the bridge over the Cherio, continuing along via E. Mattei to the starting point.
