{"id":3371,"date":"2023-01-12T16:30:34","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T15:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valcavallina.publifarm.com\/paese\/berzo-san-fermo\/"},"modified":"2025-04-29T16:53:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T14:53:05","slug":"berzo-san-fermo","status":"publish","type":"paese","link":"https:\/\/invalcavallina.it\/en\/village\/berzo-san-fermo\/","title":{"rendered":"Berzo San Fermo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>The ancient settlement of this village situated on a plateau 365 meters above sea level dates back to the Middle Ages: witness to this are the two towers that dominate this town rich in history, where Faith has left deep traces that can&nbsp;be seen&nbsp;still&nbsp;today.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The village of Berzo San Fermo\u00a0is\u00a0located\u00a0on a plateau, at the entrance of which one can admire the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/invalcavallina.it\/en\/place_of_intrest\/the-parish-church-of-saints-fermo-and-rustico\/\">Parish Church of Saints Fermo and Rustico<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0The old settlement houses two ancient medieval towers and stands somewhat detached upstream from the church, just as separated as the Canton di Sopra district.\u00a0In this part of the village, there\u00a0are interesting rustic buildings, a beautiful 17<sup>th<\/sup>-century palace called\u00a0\u201c<strong>Palazzo Terzi<\/strong>\u201d,\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>church of San Giovanni Battista<\/strong>.<br>The visit to Berzo San Fermo continues on the northern edge of the small plateau, where there is the <strong>church of Santo Stefano<\/strong>, the first written record of which appears in the early 14<sup>th<\/sup> century, in a list of churches and their representatives convened at the Bergamo synod in 1304.\u00a0<br>Noteworthy inside the church is a fresco painted on the apse behind the altar, dated between the 17<sup>th<\/sup> and 18<sup>th<\/sup> centuries and depicting the protomartyr Stephen about to be stoned to death.<br>Another noteworthy monument in Berzo San Fermo is the parish church, dedicated to Saints Fermo and Rustico. On the site where, according to tradition, the relics of the martyrs lay, a chapel\u00a0was erected, and in 1314\u00a0a\u00a0new church was built on this same site.\u00a0Inside\u00a0we\u00a0find valuable works by Gian Paolo Cavagna, Gianbettino Cignaroli, Francesco Lorenzi, and Federico Ferrario. The beautiful sacristy belongs to the Fantonian school.<br>In the area covered by the village, historically with an agricultural vocation, there are still several agricultural realities, with livestock and production of typical local products.
